Good spring wheat yields reported by the WQC. July 27, 2022
The day 1 results of the annual Wheat Quality Council tour of spring wheat held futures prices back today. The organization found a 48.6 bushel per acre yield from 120 separate field stops. The five year average of day 1 yields is 39.0. This would represent a 24.6% increase of their day 1 five year average. USDA estimated 51 bpa for the state of North Dakota for "other spring wheat". That would be only a 15.1% increase over the 44.3 bpa five year average. Do not try to match up the 48.6 bpa day 1 tour with USDA's whole-state 51.0 estimate from 7/12. We would use the percentage change way of evaluating these two different data sets. For day 1 down, the WQC tour is better than expected.
