USDA Gives Super-Bulls Something To Talk About

The nation's cattle herd, all cattle & calves, was counted -3.0% from last year. That was under the -2.7% trade guess (ALDL -2.5%). The January 1 beef cow herd at 28.918 million head was -3.6% from last year. The trade estimat was -3.8% (ALDL -4.0%). Beef heifers held back for the cow herd were counted -5.8% vs. last year. That was quite a bit under the -3.3% estimate (ALDL -3.0%). So we have a smaller cow herd and few heifers waiting to join them. Does that mean there are a lot of beef heifers set for the feedlot in the months ahead?
