Allendale, Inc. Releases Cattle on Feed Estimates
CHICAGO, IL. (February 16, 2023) – The following are our estimates for the coming Cattle on Feed report.
January placements are expected -1.1% from last year at 1.977 million head. This January estimate would mark five months of placement declines. The prior four months of inflows averaged -5.1% from last year. January placements determine a part of July – October finished cattle supply. Kansas State University estimates cattle finished during this time require a $160 fed breakeven with a range from $155 for July finishers to $167 for October outflows.
Allendale anticipates a Marketing total in January +2.7% from last year at 1.821 million.
Total Cattle on Feed as of February 1 is estimated at 11.777 million, -3.5% from last year. This is the smallest total for this month in four years.
