Allendale, Inc. Releases Cattle on Feed and Cold Storage Estimates
CHICAGO, IL. (July 14, 2022) – The following are our estimates for the coming Cattle on Feed and Cold Storage reports.
June placements are expected -4.6% from last year at 1.594 million head. This would be the lowest June inflow in six years. June placements supply a portion of the December through March finished cattle supply. Kansas State University estimates cattle finished in those months require a $147 breakeven.
Allendale anticipates a Marketing total in June +1.4% from last year at 2.050 million. This is the largest marketing for June in 11 years.
Total Cattle on Feed as of July 1 is estimated at 11.332 million, +0.4% from last year. This is the second largest July 1 total of the current data series.

Cattle on Feed is estimated as a percentage of one year ago.
Allendale projects a 541 million lb. total pork stock level for the end of June. The five-year average is 528 million lbs. Our estimate represents a decrease of 2 million lb. from the previous month. Over the past five years June averaged a 26 million decrease. Beef stocks, at 506 million lbs., are over the five-year average of 420. This month’s estimate represents a decrease of 14 million lbs. from the previous month. The five-year average for this month is for a 3 million decrease.
