Allendale, Inc. Releases Cattle on Feed Estimates
CHICAGO, IL. (June 15, 2023) – The following are our estimates for the coming Cattle on Feed report.
May placements are expected +0.1% from prior year at 1.866 million head. This would stop eight months of declines which averaged -4.6% from prior year. May placements determine a part of November – February finished cattle supply. Kansas State University estimates October – February finishing cattle require a $180 breakeven.
Allendale anticipates a Marketing total in May +1.1% from last year at 1.935 million. This included a sharp +4% adjustment due to calendar days vs. the prior year.
Total Cattle on Feed as of June 1 is estimated at 11.470 million, -3.1% from last year. This is the smallest total for this month in six years.
