Allendale, Inc. Releases Cattle on Feed Estimates
CHICAGO, IL. (January 12, 2023) – The following are our estimates for the coming Cattle on Feed report.
December placements are expected -6.9% from last year at 1.825 million head. This is the smallest December inflow in four years. This would mark four months in a row of year over year declines. December placements determine a part of July – October finished cattle supply. Kansas State University estimates cattle finished in the first half of this time require a $156 fed breakeven.
Allendale anticipates a Marketing total in December -3.8% from last year at 1.786 million.
Total Cattle on Feed as of January 1 is estimated at 11.660 million, -3.1% from last year. This is the smallest total for this month in five years.
Cattle on Feed is estimated as a percentage of one year ago.
